ARE YOU TREATED DIFFERENTLY AT SCHOOL BECAUSE YOU ARE IN FOSTER CARE?

Brittany age 15:

Yes, I feel that I am treated different.  Just because I am in foster care doesn't mean that I don't have feelings.  Why are people so stupid?  We are humans just like everyone else.

Mark age 11:

Nope!  My friends think I'm funny and cool.  They don't say anything about it.

10-2-06  from  Angel, age 14 :  I have been in the system for 1 year now and I don't really want to go back to live with my parents, does anyone else feel the same way as me?  Or am I just really weird?

10-3-06, from James age 17:  This is to Angel.  Angel talk to your caseworker because you can go through an emmancipation program.  I am going through it right now.  I don't want to go back to live with my parents either. I understand how you feel. James.

10-4-06 from Ruben age 15:  I'm in foster care and I want to just say I think this is a cool web site.

1-5-07, from Andrew age 19:  Angel, I was in foster care almost all my life.  My mom died when I was little, and my dad started doing drugs.  He would hit me all the time.  When I was 6, I was put into a foster home.  I was happy that I wasn't being abused anymore.  Although being in foster care is sometimes hard, it kept me from being abused and my foster parents helped me to understand life.  My caseworker told me about the emmancipation program and I am now 19 years old and I live on my own.  I understand how you feel about not wanting to live with your parents anymore.  Just keep your head high and look towards the future.  Andrew.

3-22-07  From Angela age 17:  I saw the Kommon Ground article in the newspaper.  I am in foster care and I want to thank you for all the resources.

4-2-07 From Devon age 14: I am confused!!!!!!!!  When I get to visit with my mom and dad, they tell me that I will be coming home soon.  I have been with my foster parents for 6 months.  My caseworker told me that it may take awhile for my parents to work things out.  Who should I believe?
